Phenylethyl Resorcinol (SymWhite® 377) ist ein hochwirksamer, synthetischer Tyrosinase-Inhibitor, der aus natürlichen Resorcinol-Derivaten weiterentwickelt wurde. Es hemmt die Tyrosinase (den geschwindigkeitsbestimmenden Schritt der Melaninsynthese) mit einer IC50 von ca. 0,1 µM und ist damit deutlich potenter als Kojinsäure oder Arbutin. Zusätzlich besitzt es starke antioxidative Eigenschaften und neutralisiert freie Radikale, die durch UV-Strahlung entstehen. Klinische Studien zeigen eine signifikante Reduktion von Hyperpigmentierung nach 4–8 Wochen Anwendung bei Konzentrationen von 0,5%. Es ist photostabil und gut verträglich.
