Carnosin ist ein natürliches Dipeptid (Beta-Alanin + Histidin), das im Körper besonders in Muskel- und Nervengewebe vorkommt. In der Hautpflege wirkt es als potentes Antioxidans und vor allem als Anti-Glykations-Wirkstoff: Es fängt reaktive Aldehyde ab, die bei der Verzuckerung von Kollagen (Glykation, Bildung von AGEs) entstehen, und schützt so die Struktur des Kollagengerüsts. Zusätzlich neutralisiert es freie Radikale und unterstützt die Haut bei UV- und Umweltstress.
