Tocopheryl Acetate
INCI: tocopheryl acetate
Tocopheryl acetate is the acetylated, stabilised ester of vitamin E. The acetyl group protects the molecule from oxidation during storage; skin esterases slowly cleave it to release free tocopherol. This makes it the standard vitamin E form in long-shelf-life creams and sunscreens. It provides antioxidant protection, conditions the skin surface, and enhances the stability of oils and UV filters within the formulation. While its bioactivity is slightly lower and slower than pure tocopherol, its gentleness and shelf stability make it a workhorse antioxidant in daily moisturisers, body lotions, and broad-spectrum sun products for all skin types.
