Squalane
INCI: squalane
Squalane is the hydrogenated, shelf-stable form of squalene — a lipid the human sebum naturally contains at around 13%, declining with age. As an emollient it is exceptional: non-comedogenic (0–1 on the comedogenic scale), instantly absorbed, non-greasy, and compatible with every skin type including oily and acne-prone. It softens, smooths, reduces trans-epidermal water loss, and acts as an elegant carrier for actives. Historically shark-derived, modern squalane comes from sugarcane or olives — identical chemistry, sustainable ethics. At 1–100% it is virtually irritation-free. If one oil belongs in every routine, it is this: biology’s own moisturiser, perfected by chemistry.
