Nicotinamide
INCI: nicotinamide
Nicotinamide is the alternate chemical name for niacinamide — vitamin B3 — and behaves identically in skin: sebum regulation, pore refinement, barrier strengthening via ceramide synthesis, and pigmentation control through melanosome transfer inhibition. INCI lists may use either name; the molecule is the same. At 2–10% it is one of the best-tolerated and most versatile actives, compatible with retinoids, acids, and vitamin C alike. A note on flushing: pure niacin can cause temporary redness in sensitive individuals, but nicotinamide itself rarely does. A daily-workhorse active with one of the strongest evidence files in cosmetics.
