Lactic Acid (AHA)
INCI: lactic acid
Lactic acid, originally sourced from sour milk, is a larger-molecule AHA that works more at the surface — making it gentler and better suited to dry or sensitive skin than glycolic acid. Uniquely among exfoliating acids, it is also part of the skin’s Natural Moisturising Factor: it hydrates while it exfoliates, pulling water into freshly renewed skin. At 5–10% it smooths texture, brightens dullness, and softens fine lines with minimal sting. Cleopatra’s milk baths were primitive lactic acid care; modern buffered formulations deliver the same glow without the smell. Use at night, follow with moisturiser, and maintain daily sun protection.
