Hydroxyethyl Urea
INCI: hydroxyethyl urea
Hydroxyethyl urea is a synthetically optimised urea derivative delivering urea-like hydration without its keratolytic sting. It binds water efficiently, improves skin smoothness, and performs especially well in humid conditions where some humectants underperform. At 2–5% it is completely non-tacky, non-irritating, and safe for face and body alike — ideal for daily lotions targeting tight, dehydrated skin. Unlike pure urea it is stable in wide pH ranges and does not develop ammonia odour over shelf life. A favourite in sensitive-skin moisturisers where "urea benefits without urea sting" is the goal. Pair with glycerin and ceramides for a complete dryness solution.
