Zingerone (4-(4-Hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-2-butanon) ist ein natürliches Phenol aus Ingwer (Zingiber officinale) und ein Metabolit von 6-Gingerol und 6-Shogaol. Es besitzt vielfältige biologische Aktivitäten: starke antioxidative Wirkung durch Scavenging freier Radikale, antiinflammatorische Eigenschaften durch Hemmung von COX-2 und NF-κB sowie antimikrobielle Effekte. Im Gegensatz zu Capsaicin reizt es die TRPV1-Rezeptoren nur schwach und ist daher deutlich hautfreundlicher. In Hautpflegeprodukten wird es zur Beruhigung gereizter Haut, Reduktion von Rötungen und als Antioxidans eingesetzt.
