Diacetyl Boldine ist ein halbsynthetisches Derivat des natürlichen Alkaloids Boldin aus dem Boldo-Baum (Peumus boldus). Es wirkt als potenter Tyrosinase-Inhibitor und zusätzlich als α-MSH-Antagonist, wodurch es die Melaninsynthese auf zwei verschiedenen Signalwegen hemmt. Im Gegensatz zu vielen anderen Hautaufhellern wirkt es entzündungshemmend und beruhigt die Haut, was besonders bei Post-inflammatorischer Hyperpigmentierung (PIH) vorteilhaft ist.
