Ceramide NS
INCI: ceramide ns
Ceramide NS is a sphingosine-based ceramide class of the epidermal barrier, closely related to ceramide NP. It contributes to the waterproof lamellar sheets between corneocytes and declines measurably with age and with harsh cleansing or over-exfoliation. Modern barrier serums include ceramide NS in multi-ceramide blends to accelerate recovery of a damaged barrier — reduced tightness, less flaking, lower reactivity. Like all ceramides it is used at low percentages and depends on a lipid-friendly formula base for delivery. Pair with niacinamide (which boosts natural ceramide synthesis) and gentle cleansing for compounding barrier benefit.
